Junior Shield Carnival - October Bulletin (posted 7 Oct '08)
We are pleased to advise that the Match Committee has a new Chairman. David Beatty is Vice President of the VMCU and has taken on the role of Chair of this Committee. David also looks after the Under 21 Wright Shield Competition.
This season, we will be welcoming West Gippsland Cricket Association into the competitions. WGCA will enter teams in the U14 and U16 synthetic comps. Indications are that there will be either 72 or 74 teams entered for 2008/09, continuing the remarkable growth of the competitions.
The Board of the VMCU have decided that the U16 competition will now be separated into two groups:
The JIM BEITZEL SHIELD Competition for associations confident of having access to turf facilities.
The KEITH MACKAY SHIELD Competition for associations that do not have access to turf and for the second team of associations that have entered 2 U16 teams.
The Board considers these 2 competitions to be of equal merit and value and is pleased to see an improved standing in the Mackay Shield hard wicket competition. At the time of writing, it seems likely that there will be two groups of 12 teams, or possibly one 12 and one 11. Each competition will be divided into two groups, North and South and fixtured accordingly. The format should be 5 home and away games, followed by quarter finals, semi finals and finals. A fixture for the Jim Beitzel Shield will be set and published by the middle of October. Fixtures for the remaining competition will be set and published by mid November.
Nominations for grades other than Beitzel Shield close on November 10, and fixture will be prepared immediately after. All associations have provided an indication of their intentions; this has helped us with the planning.
IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL COACHES AND TEAM MANAGERS MUST HAVE WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCES PURSUANT TO THE WWC LEGISLATION.
Accompanying this bulletin is a new style of Team Nomination Form. This has been prepared as a “click and send” document. It should be completed with all of the appropriate information (ground details, Team Managers details etc.) and returned no later than November 10th. It can be returned earlier. As in previous seasons, each association is required to provide an Official Umpire for all home and away games and for any quarter finals games. The VMCU will appoint Umpires for semi finals and finals.
The Shield Competitions commence on Monday, 5th. January and the finals will be played on Sunday, 18th, January. Should play not be possible on the 18th, games will be rescheduled for the following Sunday, January 25th 2009.
